Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007 (Energy Act of 2007)

The Energy Act of 2007 provided some revisions to EPAct2005, but most notably established new and/or more stringent energy efficiency standards and targets. The list of new standards includes, automobile fuel efficiency, light bulbs, HVAC, boilers, freezers, and other appliances, and building construction. The Energy Act of 2007 also set new standards for renewable fuels, significantly increasing ethanol production volumes requirements. Energy Policy Act of 2005 (EPAct2005)

EPAct2005 was a comprehensive overhaul of federal energy laws. It established new and revised energy efficiency standards, alternative energy production goals, and new research and development programs. EPAct2005 repealed the long standing Public Utilities Holding Company Act of 1935, amended the Public Utilities Regulatory Policies Act of 1978, and established new federal authority in regards to the siting of transmission lines. Public Utilities Policies Act of 1978 (PURPA)

PURPA was enacted within the Federal Energy Act. It originally established the requirement that electric utilities must offer to purchase the electric generated by small power producers and co-generation facilities. EPAct2005 amended PURPA and removed the mandatory purchase requirements. View or download the full text.
