Why an IEE?
Why was the IEE created?
The deans of five OSU colleges: Biological Sciences; Engineering; Food, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; Math and Physical Sciences; and Social and Behavioral Sciences along with the Senior VP for Research recently created a university-wide forum dedicated to energy and related environmental issues.
This action was prompted by all of the following:
- First and foremost, widespread OSU faculty interest in contributing to solutions to one of the most important challenges of our generation: developing alternatives to inexpensive fossil fuels and the environmental problems they cause
- The importance of energy to Ohio's economic future
- Four Targeted Investment in Excellence proposals were related to energy and related environmental research
- The increasing need for institutions to be interdisciplinary and collaborative on large-scale funding proposals related to energy and related environmental research
In July of 2007, the OSU Board of Trustees granted permission to create the Institute for Energy and the Environment at The Ohio State University.
